The standard braking system in most production cars is designed to function efficiently within a specific range, providing consistent cold bite and ensuring the car can stop from high speeds during emergencies. While these systems can handle moderate levels of spirited driving and repeated hard stops, they can quickly reach their limits under more demanding conditions.
 
During aggressive driving, heat builds up in the braking system. When the temperature rises too much, standard brake pads can no longer perform optimally, causing the coefficient of friction to drop and leading to brake fade.
 
Brake Fade Explained: Brake fade occurs when the braking system no longer responds proportionally to the pressure applied on the brake pedal. As you press harder, the car fails to decelerate as expected. The pedal might feel wooden, and the braking performance can plummet to the point where even heavy pressure on the pedal results in minimal stopping power.
 
Another side effect of excessive heat is the degradation of brake fluid. In standard systems, brake fluid has a relatively low boiling point. When it overheats, gas bubbles form, making the fluid compressible, unlike its normal state. This results in a brake pedal that moves without effectively transferring that force to the caliper pistons, severely reducing braking efficiency. In extreme cases, the pedal may sink to the floor with almost no braking effect.
