As part of our expanding Ford product range, AIRTEC Motorsport is proud to launch their aluminium under tray upgrade for the Fiesta ST180.

These cars do not come with an under tray from standard, but with huge benefits to be had from fitting one, we took up the challenge of constructing an under tray made from durable 2mm aluminium.

Fitted using Rivnuts to existing holes in the front subframe (no drilling required but Rivet Gun is needed to fit), the under tray attaches using a total of eight fixings to ensure strength and protect the underside of the car.

The design itself spans across the entire front end to help improve aero dynamics whilst the large centre scoop directs air up towards the turbo location, helping to maintain under bonnet temperatures at speed. The smaller scoop is for the gearbox to help maintain transmission temperatures on track and road. The back of the undertray is also spaced down to encourage airflow to pass through.

Please note: The under tray provides sufficient clearance for uprated torque mount, exhausts and big boost pipe kits – but cannot be fitted with aftermarket front subframe chassis braces that pick up off the TCAs; please see under tray fitting guide to see how it mounts for clarification.

What does an under tray do?

The under tray has three main purposes: to protect the underside of the vehicle from foreign objects flicking up and causing damage or accelerated wear. Secondly, to improve aerodynamics by creating a low pressure area as air accelerates past its smooth surface. This reduces drag, which works towards improving grip, handling as well as fuel efficiency.

Lastly, on performance models, the under tray often provides increased cooling by either venting cold air to, or extracting warm air from the engine bay. Therefore improving the strength, design, size and cooling effect can offer fantastic benefits.
